Plan your move in advance
Questions? These answers might help.
How much advance notice do you need to open, close or transfer an account?
We need at least three working days to connect or move your electricity service as long as the necessary equipment already exists. The sooner you tell us, the better.
Does it cost anything to move my service?
If you are moving or opening a new account there is a $30.00 fee plus HST.
Do I have to pay a deposit?
If you're a new customer, you'll be required to make an initial security deposit when you pay your first bill. This deposit is not necessary if:
You have a continuous 12-month good-payment history within the last 24 months involving a local distribution company or utility in Canada. You'll need to provide a reference letter from the utility as evidence.
Enersource performs an external credit check that is authorized by you and that shows you have a good credit history. Our charge for this service is $25.00 plus HST.
If you pay a deposit, the amount will be based on factors like:
- the average monthly bill for the property or area
- your credit rating
You can pay your deposit in installments over four months. When you have established a good payment history for one year, the deposit is returned. We pay interest on the deposit, which is calculated monthly.
To learn more, see Section 2.4.3.2.1 in the Enersource Conditions of Service.
What if I'm switching to an energy retailer?
The retailer will need to provide Enersource with a copy of the contract you signed with the retailer to allow us to make the change.
Do you take a final reading of my meter?
Yes. You will be provided with a final bill and the amount will not be estimated.
What if I need help filling out the online form?
