Watt Reader Program

Watt MetersConservation-minded residents can take a meter home to measure appliance electricity use

Enersource Hydro Mississauga and the Mississauga Library System have put household energy measurement in the hands of residents, offering devices through the libraries that measure appliance electricity loads.

The “Watt Reader” lending program developed in cooperation with the municipal library, offers a simple and free way for residents to discover the amount of electricity used by plug-in appliances throughout the home.

Residents borrowing the devices will receive simple operating instructions with the unit and two free energy efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs, which need not be returned. Also included are details on how to calculate the cost of using any appliance based on the reading on the device and estimating the amount of time that it might be used each month.

There are plenty of these devices available to be borrowed from our Mississauga Libraries. The Mississauga Library System's mission is to provide library services to meet life-long informational, educational, cultural and recreational needs of all Mississauga citizens. The Library System serves its 700,000 residents through a network of 17 locations. Last year, the Library welcomed 4.1 million visitors making it the #1 leisure destination within the City.
