Electricity Rates - Effective November 1, 2009
Breakdown of Charges
Electricity Commodity Charges
This is the cost of electricity supplied during the billing period. Enersource collects and passes on this charge directly to our electricity suppliers. If you choose to purchase electricity from an electricity retailer instead of from Enersource Hydro Mississauga, the prices you pay will be different and will be stated in the contract you signed.
Electricity Rates effective November 1, 2009
The Regulated Price Plan prices, set by the Ontario Energy Board, for the electricity commodity will increase by 0.1 cents/kilowatt-hour (¢/kWh).
- 5.8¢/kWh for the first 1,000 kWh used per month
- 6.7¢/kWh beyond 1,000 kWh used per month
Based on a residential consumer using 1,000 kWh per month, the impact of this increase in RPP tiered prices to the average electricity bill will be a reduction of approximately $2.60 per month.
Despite the rate increase, the average consumer will potentially see a reduction in their monthly bill as a result of the increased threshold of use.
In the winter months (November 1 to April 30), residential consumers can use up to 1000 kWh per month at the lower price versus the 600 kWh per month that applies during the summer months.
RPP prices are based on a 12-month forecast and are designed to provide stable and predictable electricity pricing as well as ensure the price consumers pay better reflects the price paid to electricity generators.
Delivery Charges
Delivery is the cost of bringing electricity from generating stations to your business. Delivery charges include:
Transmission Charge: 1.14¢/kWh
This covers the costs involved in transmitting electricity from generators to the city.
Distribution Charge: 1.00¢/kWh
This covers the cost of delivering electricity to your home as well as designing, building and maintaining the distribution system.
Customer Charge: $13.14
This is a charge for fixed costs that do not change with your consumption, such as meter reading and billing. The customer charge is stated on a 30-day basis. If your billing period is different than 30 days, the customer charge will be prorated accordingly.
Regulatory Charges
Wholesale Market Service: 0.65¢/kWh
This charge covers costs such as market regulation and the management of the system.
Standard Supply Service (SSS) Rate: $0.25
This is an administration charge of $0.25 stated on a 30-day basis. If your billing period is different than 30 days, the SSS will be prorated accordingly. This service charge does not apply to customers that purchase their energy from a retailer.
Adjustment Factor: 1.0360
When electricity is delivered over a power line, it is normal for a small amount of power to be consumed or lost as heat. Equipment, such as wires and transformers, consumes power before it gets to the home or business. The adjustment factor accounts for these losses.
Debt Retirement Charge: 0.7¢/kWh
This charge is to retire the debt of the former Ontario Hydro.
