Residential Customer Update - Ontario Energy Board Announces New Electricity Prices Effective November 1, 2009
Mississauga, Ontario - Thursday, October 29, 2009
At Enersource Hydro Mississauga (EHM), we’re committed to providing our residential customers with the most up-to-date information regarding electricity rate changes.
That’s why we’re letting you know that the Ontario Energy Board (OEB) recently released new electricity commodity prices effective November 1, 2009*.
Regulated Price Plan (RPP) prices are reviewed semi-annually and are reflected on the “Electricity” line of residential consumer bills. The new RPP tiered prices will increase by 0.1 cent per kilowatt hour (kWh) to:
- 5.8 cent per kWh up to 1,000 kWh each month; and
- 6.7 cents per kWh above that.
Based on a residential consumer using 1,000 kWh per month, the impact of this increase in RPP tiered prices to the average electricity bill will be a reduction of approximately $2.60 per month.
Despite the rate increase, the average consumer will potentially see a reduction in their monthly bill as a result of the increased threshold of use.
In the winter months (November 1 to April 30), residential consumers can use up to 1000 kWh per month at the lower price versus the 600 kWh per month that applies during the summer months.
RPP prices are based on a 12-month forecast and are designed to provide stable and predictable electricity pricing as well as ensure the price consumers pay better reflects the price paid to electricity generators.

*Note: Revised rates do not apply for those residential customers who choose to purchase their power from an electricity retailer instead of from Enersource Hydro Mississauga.
