Congratulations to all Mississauga residents and businesses participating in Earth Hour 2008! The City of Mississauga achieved a 3.6 per cent reduction in electricity demand during Earth Hour! This reduction is equivalent to 1,450,000 compact florescent light bulbs rated at 20 watts being turned off by 9:00 PM!

Mississauga's electricity demand dropped by 29 MW (megawatts) to 786 MW at 9:00 p.m., compared with total demand of 814 MW at the beginning of Earth Hour.

Enersource participated in Earth Hour by turning off all non-essential outdoor and indoor lighting at its head office location, including the outdoor LED sign board and decorative light fixtures. We also issued a challenge to our top 4500 business customers encouraging them to shift non-essential electricity load for the one hour period.
