What is the Great Refrigerator Roundup?
The Great Refrigerator Roundup is a province-wide program that began in 2007. It’s designed to remove older, inefficient fridges and freezers from Ontario’s electricity system.
The program picks up and removes older fridges and freezers, as well as other older appliances such as window air conditioners and dehumidifiers for free and dismantles them in an environmentally friendly way.
Why should I participate?
Older refrigerator and freezer units typically use two to three times more electricity than newer models. By removing these inefficient appliances, customers can save up to $150 per year on their energy bill while helping the environment at the same time.
How do I qualify?
To qualify, you must have a full-sized fridge* or freezer that is 15 years or older and is in working condition at the time of pick-up.
Eligible customers can also have a ‘secondary appliance’ such as a window air conditioner picked up at the same time. The secondary appliance must be ten years or older, in working condition and located near a power source at the time of pick-up.
*Note: Ammonia-based refrigerators are not eligible for pick up
