Enersource Corporation’s partnership with the City of Mississauga will expand the City’s successful “Got Skates?” program to five arena locations throughout Mississauga, promoting active fun as students learn to skate and enjoy one of Canada’s favourite pastimes.
Announced in the fall of 2009, Enersource Got Skates? is a unique program that will benefit children who are new to Canada or who might not otherwise be able to afford to participate in a formal skating program. Children will learn skating fundamentals in a supportive and non-competitive environment from certified instructors.
First launched in 2005 at Malton Arena, and funded through skate donations and a nominal $1 fee, underprivileged children and at risk youth were able to take part in skating activities. Enersource’s sponsorship enables the City to expand the program and provide formal skating instruction at no cost to children in grades three , four and five attending schools throughout Mississauga.
As the title sponsor, Enersource’s three-year commitment will cover the cost of instruction, skates, helmets and protective gear for the more than 25,000 local students per year who are expected to participate in the program. One hundred per cent of the sponsorship revenue will go toward the program.
This year, the program will run from October 1, 2009 to the end of March 2010. For more information, school principals, teachers and parents are asked to contact the City of Mississauga by email at gotskates.info@mississauga.ca or see the website at www.gotskates.ca.
